This past weekend, 41-year-old Andrew Golota was TKO’d in five rounds by Tomasz Adamek, who moved up from cruiserweight for the big fight in Lodz, Poland. Golota has now dropped four of his last seven bouts – including three stoppages – but is unlikely to retire.

Elsewhere, Oliver McCall, 44, scored a ten-round unanimous decision over Lance Whitaker, 37 in Las Vegas, and Frans Botha, 41, fought to a majority draw against Pedro Carrion, 39, in Dessau, Germany.

43-year-old “King of the Four Rounders”, Eric “Butterbean” Esch, recently returned to the ring after more than two-and-a-half years and lost a four-round split decision to 46-year-old Harry Funmaker, who hadn’t fought in nearly four years! After the bout, Butterbean announced his retirement. Don’t believe it …

Other past-their-prime heavyweights preparing for upcoming bouts include John Ruiz (37), Hasim Rahman (36), Michael Grant (37) and Oleg Maskaev (40). See complete schedule for details.

Mike Tyson Cutting Hair For The Jonas Brothers on Oprah for You Tube.

August 11, 2009

Mike Tyson Now Cutting Hair For The Jonas Brothers

Total Pro Sports – Ever wonder what Mike Tyson’s been up to since he bit off a third of Evander Holyfield’s ear? If you guessed training in the gym you were wrong.

He’s been hanging out with teen-pop sensations, the Jonas Brothers!

No, this isn’t an episode from South Park, but the whole situation is pretty eerie and confusing why The Jonas Brothers would even allow Mike Tyson around them. Let alone the fact that Joe Jonas would allow the ex-con/heavyweight champ to handle scissors near him is beyond me.

We all know how much Iron Mike likes removing (biting) parts from peoples bodies, but this one is a simple haircut. Maybe a career Iron Mike’s been looking to since the fall of his boxing career, and since he got that tremendously odd tattoo on his face.  Who knows he could always just sit the people down in the chair at his barber shop and bite their ears off. Makes it a bit easier for Tyson since he has a problem with money and pussy.

The gag is actually a clip from the Teen Choice Awards, yet another award show no one over the age of  13 watches. Good call FOX on picking solid role models for these kids, Mike Tyson is quite the hero.

Mike Tyson opens up on Oprah Winfrey

By Matt Ufford of Yahoo!

In an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey, Mike Tyson claimed to be a new man – one focused on his family. The former heavyweight boxing champion feared that the erratic behavior that has dominated his life for two decades would kill him within two years if he returned to it.

blog_oprah_tyson1_091012

Tyson opened up about most of his headline-grabbing actions over the years, including his years in prison, his tempestuous eight-month marriage to Robin Givens, his long addiction to drugs, the $400 million fortune he squandered, the 1997 comeback match in which he bit Evander Holyfield’s ear, and — for the first time — the death of his 4-year-old daughter earlier this year.

The key development in Tyson’s life stems from what seems to be a newfound self-awareness following his participation in the movie “Tyson,” a documentary about his life filmed as he went through rehab two years ago. “If I’m not conscious of who I am, I’m just going to let myself run [wild], and I’m going to destroy my beautiful family, and I’m going to destroy  myself, and I don’t want to go down that road any more,” he said.

Tyson ranged from terse to surprisingly candid as Winfrey asked the fallen champion about his checkered past, and he delivered eye-opening quotes about Givens and Holyfield while remaining somewhat tightlipped about the specifics of his daughter’s death.

On choosing not to know the details of his daughter’s accidental death: “I don’t know. I don’t want to know. If I know …  [then] somebody’s to blame for it, and if somebody’s to blame for it, there are going to be problems.” The quote seems to insinuate that he doesn’t want to be mad at his ex-wife or any of his other children who might be found at fault for the freak accident in which daughter Exodus was found unconscious and tangled in a cord hanging from an exercise machine.

On the “20/20″ interview in which he sat idly while Givens called him manic-depressive and said that life with Tyson was “pure hell” and “torture”: Tyson explained that the marriage was abusive “both ways” — that he battered Givens, but that she abused him emotionally.

On the Holyfield incident: “I was pissed off that he was such a great fighter … I was just mad at him.” Tyson said that after the incident, “I didn’t feel guilty at all,” and that the apology he delivered “wasn’t sincere.”

On why he hasn’t spoken to Holyfield since: “I see him sometimes, I think he’s a little leery of me.” Tyson added, “I just want to apologize. I’ve known him for such a long time, and I was just undisciplined. I was in a very competitive mood and I wanted so desperately to beat him for my own self-aggrandizement, and I was just upset.”

On whether his current family-oriented, monogamous life is boring: “I know I don’t have two more years to live if I live this life.” (By “this life,” he means his former hard-living world of drugs, women, and bankruptcy.)

In all, Tyson was more candid than most athletes are willing to be in today’s professional-sports landscape. But then, Mike Tyson has a lot more baggage to unload, too.

Mike Tyson, Holyfield mix it up on Oprah

Photo/Harpo Productions, Inc. George Burns Photo/Harpo Productions, Inc. George Burns

By TIM DAHLBERG (AP)

Mike Tyson wouldn’t bite.

Not when Evander Holyfield called up expecting an apology. Not when Oprah suggested he finally make things right.

Still missing a bit of that ear? A shame, Evander, because you’re such a nice guy.

But, really, what’s there to say after all these years?

“This is a beautiful guy,” said Tyson, holding Holyfield’s arm Friday in a tender moment that surely had millions of Oprah fans reaching for tissues all over the country. “I just want you to know it’s been a pleasure passing through life being acquainted with you.”

Tyson may have disappointed Oprah, who invested not one, but two, shows in the former heavyweight champion this week. But boxers don’t usually say they’re sorry about much, and, for all the soul searching Tyson has been doing lately, he still remains convinced that biting Holyfield’s ear was just payback for being head butted in their infamous 1997 fight.

Besides, apologies are so overrated these days, as Serena Williams showed us at the U.S. Open last month. No need to show any sincere remorse when there are no real consequences for your actions.

Rush Limbaugh certainly wasn’t apologizing this week for any of the incendiary comments he made over the years getting in the way of his bid to buy the St. Louis Rams.

Much easier to blame someone else, like his partner in the effort and the media who were involved in “repeating the lies” about him. Limbaugh’s scorched earth policy probably made him feel better about the whole botched bid, though it ensured he will never have any part of the league he professes to love.

Florida State wasn’t apologizing either, even after the release of NCAA documents that indicated one “student-athlete” on the football team had an IQ of 60 and others were reading at the second-grade level. Coach Bobby Bowden has been in the game long enough to know that you don’t beat Florida by recruiting a bunch of Rhodes scholars.

Then again, it had to be a bit embarrassing to find out that in place of requiring SAT scores for admission, recruits only had to prove they could master the illustrated version of “See Spot Run.”

And there were no apologies coming out of Mannywood, even though Manny Ramirez hasn’t been able to hit an inside fast ball since he returned from a 50-game suspension for using a female fertility drug and is a big drag in the Dodger postseason lineup. Come to think of it, Manny hasn’t apologized for anything, and probably never will.

It might also be that few apologize anymore because it’s so hard to do. Just look at LeGarrette Blount’s formal apology for decking a Boise State football player, which either took him weeks to prepare or was done by the University of Oregon public relations department.

And consider the plight of Australian golfer Robert Allenby, who went off on Anthony Kim after he was beaten badly by the young American on the final day of the Presidents Cup last weekend.

Allenby called Kim the “loosest cannon on that team” and said he was doubly upset because he had it on good word that Kim was out partying until four in the morning and was probably suffering from a bad hangover when he beat him.

When it came time for offering the obligatory mea culpa, though, Allenby didn’t go on Oprah. Instead, the PGA Tour issued a vague statement saying that maybe someone might have misinterpreted something he said and that he and Kim were still great buddies no matter what.

Kim accepted the apology via a tour issued statement of his own, then headed for Las Vegas, where the tour issued a statement that he missed the cut.

Oprah had to be expecting more out of Tyson, who first appeared Monday to talk about his tortured life and choke up whenever he talked about his kids. The appearance was to promote his movie, which consists of Tyson talking about his tortured life and choking up when he talks about his kids.

Holyfield apparently saw it and called Oprah asking that she host a program where Tyson could say he was sorry, Holyfield could forgive him, and everyone could share a group hug.

It didn’t quite turn out that way, though Oprah tried her best.

“Can you feel the love people have for you?” she asked Tyson at one point.

The way Tyson was pouring his heart out to Oprah he seems sorry for a lot of things he has done in his life. Surely he’s sorry that he can’t fight off a bizarre compulsion to keep telling the world about them.

But apologize for biting Holyfield’s ear?

Sorry, Evander, not a chance.

Shane Mosley loves Kanye West!

760-315_10

If you watched the VMAs last week then you know the whole issue with Kanye West. If you do not know what happened, Kanye basically got on stage and took the mic from Taylor Swift and said Beyonce had the best video ever and then walked off.

Here is the actual video of him doing so:

Then obviously everyone was mad that he shouldn’t have taken her glory, agreed. After fielding a 24-hour firestorm of criticism and apologizing on his blog, West told Jay Leno, “It was rude, period….I’m just ashamed that my hurt caused someone else’s hurt.”

Well this circumstance happened again when Floyd Mayweather Jr. was being interview by HBO’s Max Kellerman after winning a unanimous decision over Juan Manuel Marquez, Kellerman asked Mayweather about the possibility of facing Mosley next, Mosley thrust himself into the discussion. Mosley, along with the equally inappropriate Bernard Hopkins, verbally attacked Mayweather, leaving Mayweather flustered and eventually forcing him to storm out of the ring. This was supposed to be Mayweather’s well-earned moment in the spotlight.

Mosley, and the rest of Golden Boy, should be embarrassed by his behavior. The stunt carried with it the permeating odor of a desperate man. Mosley believed his win over Margarito would propel him to multiple lucrative fights this year. But it hasn’t, and Mosley has failed to secure deals with Pacquiao, Andre Berto or Zab Judah.

With 2009 winding down, Sugar Shane still doesn’t have a fight scheduled (a proposed Dec. 26 date was vetoed by HBO). For an aging fighter on the tail-end of his career, that is unacceptable.

I doubt we will see Shane Mosley on the Jay Leno show but I truly believe he should apologize to Floyd Mayweather Jr. for acting like Kanye West.
